ROSA® Knee Robotic Technology
If your knee pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, it may be time to consider other options to relieve your pain and get you back to the life you love safely and quickly. Our world-class knee surgeon Dr. Rocco Simmerano performs some of the latest techniques in the orthopedic field, including total knee replacement for your knee pain using ROSA Knee robotic technology.
What Is ROSA Knee?
ROSA, which stands for robotic surgical assistant, is designed to help surgeons perform total knee replacement with more precision and a higher standard of care. Using real-time information, ROSA Knee assists surgeons in removing the damaged bone, accurately placing the implant, and assessing the state of soft tissues.
Is ROSA Knee Right for You?
ROSA Knee robotic-assisted total knee replacement is typically recommended for patients who:
- Have exhausted all applicable nonsurgical treatment options, such as physical therapy or injections
- Are experiencing debilitating pain from a degenerative joint disease, such as osteoarthritis
- Are unable to accomplish everyday tasks due to joint pain
To determine if you are a good candidate for ROSA Knee robotic-assisted total knee replacement, your orthopedic surgeon will perform a thorough assessment as well as ask you questions about the pain you are experiencing and to what extent it affects your everyday life.
If you are a good candidate for ROSA Knee robotic-assisted total knee replacement, your surgeon will walk you through the procedure, explain the recovery process, and answer any questions you may have.
What to Expect
Your experience before, during, and after surgery will reflect that of most total knee patients; however, there will be a few key differences. For instance, in the preoperative phase, your surgeon may use a series of X-rays to create a 3D model of your knee, allowing them to develop a personalized surgical plan prior to your surgery.
During surgery, your surgeon will perform your total knee replacement with the aid of ROSA Knee, a robotic assistant. ROSA Knee uses a camera as well as optical trackers that are attached to your leg to know the exact position of your knee. This helps your surgeon carry out your personalized surgical plan accurately. ROSA Knee also provides your surgeon with data throughout your procedure, which helps them precisely place your implant.
After surgery, you will start a recovery plan that has been designed for your individual case. Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most patients can start driving after 2 weeks, do light activities, such as gardening, after 3 – 4 weeks, and return to some recreational activities, such as golf, after 6 – 8 weeks. As your recovery progresses, your surgeon will meet with you to discuss when you can start participating in certain activities again as well as which ones you should continue to avoid.
