Ankle Reconstruction Surgery
Ankle reconstruction surgery is a viable treatment option for those suffering from degenerative diseases afflicting the cartilage in the ankle joint, like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, or for those suffering the effects of a serious ankle injury.
To restore the natural function of the ankle joint, ankle reconstruction surgery can be performed in one of two ways. The first approach, ankle fusion, fuses the broken bones together by removing cartilage from your ankle joint and then aligning the neighboring bones together to be fused to the joint with a metal plate and screws. The second approach, ankle replacement surgery, involves the complete removal and replacement of the ankle joint with an artificial joint implant.
