Gender-Specific Knee Replacement
A gender-specific knee replacement procedure uses a gender-specific total knee replacement implant designed specifically for either a male or female patient. The size of the implants differs slightly to accommodate for the variance in bone sizes between genders.
Traditionally, implant designs have been created based on an average joint size, with slightly larger and slightly smaller-sized options to accommodate joints of all sizes. However, gender-specific implants are created for both genders, based on both a female average joint size and a male average joint size. By replicating each specific gender’s normal anatomy, this knee procedure offers a more precise fit, better function, and improved durability.
