Same-day, in-office hand procedures available at Tri-County Orthopedics

CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J. (July 2024) – Board-certified hand and orthopedic surgeon with specialized fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery Dr. Jonathan Shearin at Tri-County Orthopedics is offering wide-awake hand surgery. Available for candidates who meet certain criteria, these procedures allow patients to undergo their procedure in an office setting and return home the same day as their procedure. Dr. Shearin sees patients at Tri-County Orthopedics in several locations: in Cedar Knolls at The Advanced Medical Center at 197 Ridgedale Ave., Suite 300; in Jefferson at 757 Route 15 S. in Lake Hopatcong; and in Bedminster at 1590 Route 206 N. Patients experiencing chronic pain or dysfunction in their hand or wrist are encouraged to call 973-538-2334 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Shearin.

Also known as WALANT (wide-awake local anesthesia, no tourniquet), wide-awake hand surgery is an advanced technique that allows patients to remain awake during their procedure. These procedures are performed to treat a range of needs, including trigger finger, ganglion cysts and tendon injuries. The wide-awake hand surgery procedure offers patients with hand and wrist conditions a number of advantages over traditional surgeries, such as:

— No fasting required.

— No IV or general anesthesia necessary.

— Patient is allowed to drive to and from the clinic for the procedure.

“Wide-awake hand surgery is a groundbreaking treatment option, and I’m proud to offer it to area patients,” said Dr. Shearin. “At Tri-County Orthopedics, we are committed to improving the patient experience, and the innovative techniques used in wide-awake hand surgery offer a faster, more comfortable approach for lasting solutions to restore hand and wrist function and strength.”

Dr. Shearin attended the Georgetown University School of Medicine to earn his medical degree. He went on to complete the orthopedic surgery residency program at Lenox Hill Hospital through Northwell Health in New York City, where he was selected as administrative chief resident his final year. He then pursued additional specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery and completed a year-long fellowship through Rothman Orthopaedic Institute at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
